"Stairway to Heaven" Lawsuit Heads to Trial
One of the most recognizable rock and roll songs of all time has been in the middle of a legal battle for two years, and now this battle is headed to the courts for trial.
Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" has been accused of stealing the main riff from the song "Taurus" by the band Spirit and its prime author, Randy Wolfe. Through listening to the song, you can hear how both introductions have their similarities.
This asks a question - how much is stealing? With music, we have similar chord progressions, melodies, and even sounds, but if it is not exactly the same thing, is it theft?
