NPR's 2016 Tiny Desk Contest Has a Winner
NPR radio's Tiny Desk concert series began holding a contest in 2015 for a mostly-unknown artist to get a chance in a national/international spotlight. Many of the leading contestants end up appearing on the series, but the winner gets a large prize and a lengthy solo performance on the radio show and the website's hosting service.
This year was musician Gaelynn Lae, who submitted a video of her singing and playing her violin - with a twist. By using a looping pedal, she was able to create a harmonious background with just one instrument, which was perfect for her to sing a haunting, beautiful melody over.
It is well worth the watch/listen if you get a chance. Her final performance was posted on the series' main page on NPR's website.
